The Roll-a-jet really shines for cleaning shags (and especially felted shags) since there's no brush agitation needed. This is a type of rug best farmed out to an in-plant cleaner.

These types of floor coverings well illustrate the need to do something other than on-location cleaning. The rotary and wand techniques, even if attempted in-plant, may distort the rugs appearance and have limited results. Bryan makes a good point about taking them to an appropriate in-plant facility. That somewhere must not distort the pile, while wetting it out completely and thereby continuing to safely remove the soil. Getting down to the foundation and cleaning the debris and soil out well is the challenge for anyone. Included in this challenge is the complete washing of the felted pile without ruining its appearance.
