Ever poured thousands into Radio spots, Email Campaigns or Google Ads… only to wonder, “Which one got people on the phone?”

That’s where call tracking comes in!

Unique numbers per campaign – assign dedicated numbers to TV, radio, Facebook ads and pretty much any source of advertising.
Call attribution – see exactly which channel drove each call
Conversion insights – track call duration, source, even keyword level detail in Google Ads

Tools like CallRail make setup a breeze when it comes to tracking numbers.

Pro Tip: Listen to your call recordings to help refine your sales script and boost closing rates.

SCREENSHOT: We track every lead source, aka how the customer found you, down to the detail. Our spreadsheet includes a dozen or more channels, making it easy to compare and analyze month-over-month and year-over-year trends. This helps us spot anomalies and take action quickly. We review this data monthly.

In my local area, in the 90's we had a program thru cable tv. It seems that a certain % of add space was required to be set aside for local advertising. Being rural . There wasn't much call for it so i scored 30second spots for $5.00each it cost about 3-500 per commercial to produce locally and worked great! For the 2 or so years the program was in place at the time t had 2 phone #s(still do) 964-6407 business # and 964-6307 fax # and also used when testing advertising cable insert was great but i also have used trailer adds at our local movie theater . People that go to the theaters have a few bucks in disposable income and are a "captive audience" of course being rural we only have 1 theater

Lame advisement here. Pro tip - What idiot would invest in advertising a phone number that was not their main business number?
Someone like me that wants to track a specific form of advertising i have 2 phone #s with only 1 digit differance 6407 and 6307 fax or test advertising in the last years of our local phone books i had a full color add that used 40% of the outside rear cover and cost 1200 per year. I changed the # from 6407 to 6307 only 3 people that year noticed and or commented on it when they called .( With the results from that little experiment i dropped the cover add the following year and pocket the 1200 bucks!)

I get the skepticism. Though, you’re not actually “advertising” some random number , everything still rings your main line. Call tracking runs behind the scenes and hands every call right back to you. CallRail alone is used by over 200,000 businesses (ServPro, Pepsi, Stanley Steemer, etc.), so it’s far from a gimmick.

For us it’s more than that first ring: we leave spotter bottles, branded pens, and we do follow‑up emails, SMS campaigns and postcards, all carrying our name and main number, so we stay top‑of‑mind when customers need us again. It’s not theory , we’ve seen the results in our own numbers. Appreciate the pushback!

We run radio ads, occasional FB ad, advertise in community Facebook pages, etc.

We simply track it by asking each call how they heard about us.

We do the same! We ask every caller “How did you hear about us?” But for geo located postcard campaigns(EDDM), A/B testing ad copy, Google Ads or on Google Local Services Ads (where Google assigns the number you can’t change), we spin up dedicated tracking lines so we know which channel drove the call. Otherwise, it’s just our main number and a quick question.
